2009 - July 9 (Singapore)

Thursday passes uneventfully at work. The local IT staff tries to help me resolve the remote access problem and we seem to have it fixed when we test at the office. I get home and it still does not work. I proceed to think through the problem myself and I connect to our home network to check my references there. I can connect to home, just not to the office. Browsing through my files, I remember a problem similar to this one that I had several years ago, right after I started travelling with my company. I make a change to one setting on my VPN and suddenly….I CAN SEE MY NETWORK! The world is a beautiful place, birds are singing, the sky is clear, I hear a heavenly choir singing Hosanna. I immediately send off an email to all the IT staff who worked on my problems and provided them the resolution to the problem, thanked them politely for their time and tried not to be sarcastic about the value of their help. I get a response back reminding me it may not work all the time. Piss OFF! How dare they lecture me about what might go wrong since they could not make things go right. But I did respond politely again and stated clearly that I would watch out for the problem in the future.
